Happy New Year and welcome to 2006. This year will see a very concentrated effort on my part to learn the art of black and white photography. The year will be documented with an audio diary. The audio diary is a real time saver for me in recording the learning process and sharing it with whomever may find it of interest. I hope you enjoy the journey and I invite you to come along and share with me any thoughts or ideas you may have along the way. To view the photograph and hear the audio diary, simply click on the image or the hyperlink. So...here we go!
January
1, 2006: "The Beginning" A look into the reasoning behind the
studies and what to expect in the coming months. The focus on black and
white really began with the
"Brickworks Photography Workshop" hosted by Michael
Reichmann in Toronto in November 2005. This photograph is my favorite from
the workshop and will become one of the core images I use in finding the best
quality print with techniques currently available.
The audio file is 5 minutes in length and 3.5mb in size.
January 8, 2006:
My New Year's Resolution
Audio file is a 2.5mb download.
January
12, 2006: Visualization
for Black and White. Training the eye to see the world in black and
white takes practice and the utilization of some specific tools.
The audio file is 8 minutes in length and a 5mb download.
For those joining me on this journey, I
highly recommend the following books for study. These books are in my
library and I regularly reference these texts for technical assistance and
artistic inspiration.
(If the book title and cover photograph do not appear, try
refreshing the page as the server at amazon.com may not be responding.)
I also recommend the quarterly publication
"Lenswork." This
publication is the gold standard in fine art black and white presentation of
contemporary artists.

January 18, 2006:
Creative Experimentation. An
attitude that is also aided by the environment in which one works.
January

early 2006 that are available to the fine art photographer.

January 29, 2006:
Darkroom Day 1. Comments on darkroom work with Aguereberry negative
from 2005.

Little bites are much easier to digest when consuming huge amounts of
information.

February 2, 2006:
"Eureka: Finding a beautiful BW inkjet print"
