Jeff Ball Landscape Photography-Joshua Tree National Park

In January 2004 I had an opportunity to visit Joshua Tree following a business meeting in San Diego.  The drive from San Diego is about 3 hours.  I stayed in Twentynine Palms for 3 days.  The park presents many terrific photo opportunities with some spectacular lighting conditions.  Michael Reichman has a couple of pages dedicated to the area.  There is also some information available in the Photograph America newsletter.  The most outstanding opportunities for me were the Joshua Trees in the Hidden Valley area at sunrise or sunset and the Cholla garden at sunrise.  Keys View is a wonderful sight-seeing destination, but photographic opportunities may be compromised by the very strong winds and haze/smog that can overtake the valley.  The mornings were always more calm for me at all locations with the afternoon winds becoming quite strong and chilly.
