Astrophotography by Jeff Ball: A wide selection of astronomical images.
The links below are the primary sources for me in learning the art of
photography. This is the cream of the crop in photographic education.
It is not about equipment, it is about connecting with others on an
emotional level with the photographic print. If you want to know to
whom I look for art and photographic instruction, the resources below have
assisted me in developing my own photographic style.
The Luminous
Landscape: A website and DVD journal for enhancing your
photographic skills. One of the best contemporary resources for
photography in the world. Author is Michael Reichmann.
Fine
Art Photography by Alain Briot: Alain is my mentor. I have
learned nearly all I know about photography as an art from Alain. A
tremendous resource for aspiring photographers as well as beautiful
photography. I can't recommend the
tools and resources that Alain offers highly enough. I consider
him to be the prominent teacher of color photography today.
Lenswork: One of
the finest writers on photography is Brooks Jensen, editor of Lenswork.
One of the few podcasts I regularly listen to. The publication is
outstanding and a major motivation for me to improve my work.
Mid-West Photo Exhange:
I can't recommend highly enough the folks at Mid-West Photo Exchange,
particularly Jim Andracki. Whether your needs are 35mm to large format
or digital inkjet printing, please give the folks at Mid-West a call to see
how they can most effectively meet your photographic needs.
Astrophotography Links:
My humble
attempts at astrophotography would not have been possible without the online
resources made available by these groups and individuals.
The
Astrophotography Mailing List (APML): Search the
archives of this most resourceful film imaging listserv and you will likely find
the answer to your film imaging questions.
The SBIG Yahoo
Group. The world's finest CCD imagers participate in discussions
on this list.
Rob
Gendler - The finest aesthetic CCD imaging on the
planet. Great articles on Photoshop mosaic, luminance layering, and
multiple luminance layering.
Jerry Lodriguss:
Mr. Lodriguss utilizes an Astrophysics refractor (and that is why I now have one). Jerry
has the most useful information on astrophotography and digitally enhancing images on the
web. His images provide inspiration and direction to my astrophotography pursuit. I have
employed many of his digital enhancement techniques on my images. Things like reducing
uneven field illumination, enhancing contrast, and stacking negatives. He
is the fountain of information on astrophotography and I am eternally
indebted to him for sharing his expertise with the world. Go to Mr. Lodriguss' web
site if you want to know about:
- what film to use
- hypering film
- how to frame an object
- digital enhancement of images
- what camera to use
- what is the right color of an object
or to just see some beautiful images
Jerry has just published a
book on CD ROM (summer 2003) on Photoshop for Astrophotography. This book
is HIGHLY recommended for anyone interested in astrophotography!
