An event that happens twice a century, Venus glided across the face of the Sun on the morning of June 8 for those of us on the east coast of the U.S.A.   Venus can be seen in this unfiltered exposure as the black dot just below the midline and in  the lower right quadrant.  The image was taken at Huntington Beach State Park near Myrtle Beach, SC.  The view was quite fascinating and I hope this image captures the moment for you to reflect upon until the next Venus transit in June 2012.
March 2005 update:  This image has been selected as the cover image for the Naval Observatory Almanac for the years 1850-2050.  Publication is expected soon.
This image was featured on page 122 of Sky Publishing's SkyWatch '05
